Two Months Later

Oh my goodness! It's been such a long time since I've updated my blog! I didn't forget about it, I just got busy! My life is very busy, and not having internet access less than a mile from my house means not having the time to go update my blog. At the moment, I'm here in Three Rivers, where it's 8:15 in the morning and already over 80* F, waiting for my car to get fixed and hoping for good news. I'm loving it here in Sequoia - the job is challenging and active, I give lots of different programs, I've got lots of different folks to hang out with, and lots of activities at my fingertips to keep me occupied. My crafting and reading have greatly suffered from all the excitement around here! ;) But one thing that hasn't is my picture taking. I uploaded all the pictures I've taken since April on my computer and sorted through to pick the best 25 to post on my blog (quite a few of them are wildflowers). If a picture's really worth a thousand words, hopefully this will make up for my two months of relative silence. :) Remember: if you click on the picture it'll get bigger!

Wolverton, where I spent my first week on the mountain.

It snowed. (Yes, this is the General Sherman Tree.)
I've been surrounded by big trees...
... both alive and dead.
I've gotten to do some beautiful hikes with Jack in the Mineral King area.
We've also camped out in some secret places with amazing vistas.
Big trees start very, very small.
Snow plant: a plant without chlorophyll which relies on a fungus in its roots to survive.
Western Wallflower
Outside the Giant Forest Museum (one of my workplaces) on a morning after they started the prescribed burn just over the hill.
Mustang Clover: this tiny ground cover is all over the place!
Mature Snow Plant Flowers
Marsh Marigold
Subalpine Paintbrush
Jeffrey Shooting Star
Immature Alpine Daisy
The beautiful, tranquil Hockett Meadow

Looking into the Central Valley from the Hockett Trail

Jack told me he'd take my picture if I climbed this rock... so why not?

The South Fork Kaweah River Valley

Sunset over the South Fork Valley
After a little more hiking.
The red glow, the cloud descending from above... it was a cool, damp last 4 miles.

Leopard Lilly - these smell like a dozen roses in a single bloom.

Richardson's Geranium
So that's all for now folks! My car got fixed - it turned out to just be some things got bumped and got in the way of the wheels when I turned. Only $20 to fix! Hooray! On that note, it's time to head back up into the mountains, before it gets too crazy busy up there, so that I can pack my things and prep to hike out for Fourth of July in Mehrten Meadow with a bunch of trail crew friends. Should be fun!

Happy Fourth of July!

Until next time!
